“Uma alegoria ao racismo como uma epidemia cultural adquirida (…)”

O segundo filme da categoria Racismo chama-se “Strange Fruit” e foi realizado por Shimi Asresay e Hili Noy, alunos da Academia de Arte e Design – Bezalel, em Jerusalem. A história narra a rotina diária de pai e filho que é interrompida por um menino desconhecido, diferente da cor deles.

Esta animação tem como inspiração o poema também ele denominado Strange Fruit, cuja versão mais conhecida é de Billie Holliday. O poema, bastante marcante, condena o racismo contra os afro-americanos.

Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.
